Soccer Coaching Drills - Want To Know Trapping Techniques
Let’s say that at least 50% of soccer coaching drills must concentrate on improving player’s trapping skills. You won’t take it seriously. But No! Research shows that trapping along with passing and dribbling skills alone decide whether your team is capable of winning matches or not.
The ability to capture the ball and retain it for a considerable time is called trapping. These are soccer exercises that permit the use of chest, thighs and feet while doing so.
Players must be familiar with the job of trapping the ball. If not, they will never really be in control of the game because everything else comes after trapping the ball. Some of the following techniques help in enhancing the trapping skills of the players.
Engaging the feet: Firstly, train your players in using their feet to deal with the ball which is a basic skill. In kids soccer drills, the kids must be particularly trained on using the inside of their foot. The biggest reason for this is that the inside area of the foot is broad and is most helpful in tackling the ball.
During soccer coaching drills, the high ranking and senior players should be educated on the use of foot, its crown, and instep of the foot plus the whole foot. Train your players to adopt the strategy to apply ankle or shin to catch hold of the ball when it is jumping a lot.
Thigh Movement: Speedy and bouncy ball can be controlled by simply using the thigh. Instruct the players to get in front of the ball, stand on one feet and rise the other thigh to stop the ball. Practice the skill of retaining the ball with you after it meets your thigh by learning to bring down your knee so the will plunge and settle close to you.
This activity has to be practiced regularly in order to become an expert at it by first using the knee to catch the ball and then bringing the knee down to prevent it from getting away.
Use the Chest: Trapping a ball flying high in the air with the use of your chest is also equally useful, like the use of thighs. Make the players stand in front of the ball and then ask them to take their chests out as if to confront the ball. As a result the ball will loose its tempo almost immediately and will fall down at once.
However, in the soccer training drills, it is important to realize that young players should not be exposed a lot to this technique. When they try to tackle the ball using the chest, it is their normal tendency to use their hands. It could be troublesome because the kids might get accustomed to using their hands to catch the ball.
